ARLINGTON -- Priscilla C. Smith, 80, a resident at Crescent Manor Care Centers in Bennington and formerly of Brigantine, N.J., died Monday, Sept. 19, 2005, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington.

She was born in Attleboro, Mass., on Dec. 29, 1924, the daughter of Herbert C. Crowell and Beulah (Blaine) and attended local schools. She was a graduate of the Newport Hospital School of Nursing in Newport, R.I., class of 1945, now known as Salve Regina College. Upon graduation she worked as an operating room nurse in the Rhode Island area. She was very active and involved with the Republican Party, and organized the Republican Party registrar of voters. Priscilla was a lighthouse inspector as part of the National Lighthouse Association. She was a former Girl Scout troop leader and cookie chairwoman as well as a Boy Scout troop leader. She was a magistrate and justice of the peace in Deep River, Conn., and an avid reader. She loved her home and cherished times spent with her family, which was evident by her enjoyment of cooking, baking and her candlelight dinners.

She married Gordon W. Smith in Providence, R.I., on Jan. 27, 1948. Mr. Smith died in 1988. She is survived by two sons, David Smith of Brigantine, N.J., and Scott Smith of Levittown, Pa.; two daughters, Dee Smith-Thieman of Arlington and Pamela Smith of Huntington Valley, Pa.; her sister, Jacqueline Lund of Gallipolis, Ohio; six granddaughters; Kimberly, Kelly, Stephanie, Stacey, Christina and Jessica; and five great-grandchildren, Gordon, Megan, Kaitlyn, Hayden and Emily. She was preceded in death by her sister, Virginia Wright of Cranston, R.I.

At the request of the family, funeral services will be private. Interment will be in the family lot in Island Pond Cemetery, Harwich Point, Mass., on Cape Cod. There are no visiting hours.
