R. David McCarthy

1942-2013 On August 21, 2013 R. David McCarthy passed away surrounded by his family at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire. He was born in Glens Falls, New York on June 20, 1942. He was the son of Richard E. McCarthy and the late Christina (Holloran) McCarthy. David was a graduate of St. Mary's Academy of Glens Falls Class of 1960, Boston College Class of 1964 and MBA from Siena College. For 16 years David was employed in sales at IBM in Albany, New York. He later worked in the telecommunications business. Dave also taught businesses classes at Southern Vermont College in Bennington and Bryant and Stratton in Albany, N.Y.. He also authored and published several books. His most recent publication was "How to Succeed in College". David will always be remembered by his wit, charm and sense of humor. He loved sports and especially enjoyed attending his son's sporting events. He is survived by his son's mother's, Georgienne (Flood-Ingalls) and Kelley (Mahar-McCarthy). His children, Jon(Mary Ann), Phil (Sarah), Michael (Allison) and David and Brendan McCarthy, eight grandchildren. His father Richard E. McCarthy, three sisters, Julie Manbeck (Harry), Barbara Dator (Tom) and Gwen Ingalls, a brother, Andrew McCarthy (Ellen) and several nieces, nephews and cousins. David was predeceased by his mother Christina Holloran McCarthy, his uncle Robert McCarthy and daughter Mary Anne McCarthy. FUNERAL NOTICE: Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home in Bennington on Saturday August 24, 2013 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. A memorial service to celebrate David's life will follow at 2:00 p.m. If friends desire contributions in memory of R. David McCarthy may be made to the Southwestern Vermont Regional Cancer Center through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201
