Obituary Condolences

EASTON, N.Y. -- R. Gordon Wright, 81, a resident of Wrights Road, died Saturday, May 1, 2004 at Saratoga Hospital.

He was born April 6, 1923 in Easton, the son of the late Fred and Elizabeth (MacAuley) Wright.

Mr. Wright was a lifelong resident of the town of Easton, where he was involved with and later operated the family farm. During World War II he served with the Army’s 28th Division from 1944 to 1946. He was the recipient of three battle stars.

Gordon married Marguerite (Kiki) Fremont of Schuylerville on May 15, 1944 and they became the parents of four children.

He was a member of the Easton Volunteer Fire Department, served on the board of education of the Stillwater Central School and also served as assessor, justice of the peace and supervisor, all for the town of Easton. He was also a director and vice president of the Washington County Cooperative Insurance Co. and a member of Senior Citizens.

Gordon’s fondest memories and some of his favorite times came as a result of his involvement with the Washington County Fair. He was supervisor of the gate for three years and then served as fair manager from 1971 to 1991. During those years he also held positions with the New York State Association of Agricultural Fairs: president of the managers association, District II director and eventually president of the association.

Gordon is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marguerite; and his children, Richard G. Wright Jr. and his wife Jane of Bennington, Vt., Christie Dudar and her husband Joseph of Latham, Robert Wright and his wife Smith Ann of Greenwich, and Jonathan Wright of Albany. He was the loving grandfather to 10 grandchildren and three great-grandsons, and is also survived by one brother, Gilbert Wright of North Hoosick; two sisters, Alice Dockrell of Sun City, Ariz. and Gladys Moon of Hurley; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 4, 2004 at Flynn Bros. Inc. Funeral Home, 80 Main St., Greenwich, with the Rev. James Patrick and the Rev. Barbara Thomas officiating.

Interment will be in the Elmwood Cemetery, Schaghticoke. Memorials may be made to the Easton Methodist Church or Hospice of Washington County.
