Obituary Condolences

SALEM, N.Y. -- Ralph C. Hall, 79, of Salem, N.Y., passed away peacefully Wednesday, Aug., 24, 2005, at Glens Falls Hospital with his family at his side.

He was born in Belcher, N.Y., on Nov. 23, 1925, the son of Clayton L. and Rubie McKernon Hall. Ralph worked on the family farm until it was sold. He worked for years as a rural mail carrier until his retirement. Ralph was an integral part of the community of Salem. He served as a village trustee for many years. He particularly supported the Salem Rescue Squad, the Salem Fire Department and the Bancroft Public Library. He knew almost everyone in Salem and they knew him.

He will be remembered best for his generous spirit. He was an avid gardener and every year he could be seen sharing his harvest with family, friends and neighbors. He especially cared for community residents who were elderly or on fixed incomes. He would act as a handyman shoveling snow, repairing squeaky doors and defrosting water pipes, always helping those in need.

Ralph was a loving, caring family man. He worked very hard but always found time to spend with his wife, children and grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was pre-deceased by two grandchildren, Justin Gillis and Gregory Filer.

Ralph is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary McCann Hall, his three daughters, Deborah Hall, Denise Gillis and Diane Arnold and her husband Bo of Salem. He also has six grandchildren, Jessica, Jeremy and Brittany Gillis, Evan Black, Cameron and Audra Arnold, all of Salem. Ralph is also survived by one sister, Marjorie Hall Barkley, and two brothers, Glenn and Robert Hall, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be private for the family in the McClellan Funeral Home, 19 East Broadway, Salem with the Rev. Liam Condon officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Salem. There will be no public calling hours.

Friends may donate to any of the above organizations Ralph supported or to a charity on one’s choice.
