Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Ralph E. Watson, 59, a lifelong resident of Bennington and of Chapel Road, died peacefully Saturday morning Sept. 2, 2006, at his home surrounded by his family. Ralph was born in Bennington on Oct. 27, 1946, the son of Arthur and Lillian (Stratton) Watson. He began his education in Bennington at the White Chapel one-room school House, graduating from Old Bennington High School, class of 1964. He married the former Cynthia (Cindy) Whiteway in Bennington at the Bennington Baptist Church on June 13, 1964.

Ralph was self-employed as owner and operator of Watson Excavating for many years. He was a member of the American Tree Farmers Association and took pride in growing oak and maple trees, motorcycle enduros in his younger years, loved to bowl and was a member of various bowling teams in Bennington. Ralph pitched horseshoes and did so at many state level competitions. He was a maple sugar producer for 25 years, loved nature, the mountains and gardening and cherished times spent with his family.

He is survived by his wife Cindy, of Bennington; his son, Bryan Watson and his wife, Wendy, of Bennington, his brother, Thomas Watson and his wife, Marylin, of Orange City, Fla.; four sisters, Betty Lackey and her husband, Howard, Ora Joseph and her husband, Thomas, Mary Garren and Ruth Sweet and her husband, Jack, all of Bennington; two grandchildren, Bryan Matthew Watson and John Watson; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kimberly Watson-Shand, who died April 13, 1987, and his brother, Edward Watson. Funeral services for Ralph will be held Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2006, at 5 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Bennington. The Rev. Jerrod H. Hugenot will conduct the service. A time of fellowship and refreshments will follow the service at the church. Visiting hours at Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home will be Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2006, from 5 to 8 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.
