Ralph Lillie 1960 - 2009 BENNINGTON, VT Ralph Lillie, age 48, a resident of South Stream Road in Pownal, died on Thursday evening, March 19, 2009 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington following a long illness. He was born in Bennington on June 15, 1960, son of the late Ernest and Jean Wood Lillie. He received his education in Bennington and is a graduate of Mount Anthony Union High School in the class of 1978. He was employed at VTrans State Highway Department in Bennington. Ralph served in the Marine Corp for six years following his high school graduation. He married the former Teresa Glanovsky in Lake George, N.Y., on July 2, 2004. Ralph was a firefighter with the East Pownal Fire Department. He was appointed First Assistant in 1990 until 1993. He was the President of the East Pownal Fire Company from 1991 until 1993. He was appointed Chief in 1994, and was a Captain in 1995 until the fire company merged into Pownal Valley Fire Department. He was a former member of the Bennington Moose Lodge and the Southern Vermont Wednesday Night Bowling League. He enjoyed NASCAR, hunting, fishing, camping, being outdoors. He enjoyed vacationing in Maine, New Hampshire, and Canada. He especially enjoyed spending time with his two grandsons and his dog, "Kippy". Besides his wife, Ralph leaves his daughter Jennifer Bevins of Bennington, his two grandsons; Ryo Bevins and Noah Lillie of Bennington. He has one brother, Michael Lillie of Shaftsbury, three sisters; Shirley Mason and her husband, Daniel of Searsburg, Vt., Lorraine Gates, and her husband, Gordon of North Pownal, Vt., and Judith Somerville of Bennington, Vt. He leaves his brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-law; Michael and Ann Glanovsky of Shaftsbury, Vt., Steven Glanovsky of Lexington, N.C., and James and Sarah Glanovsky of Lexington, N.C., and his in-laws Steven and Barbara Glanovsky of Siler City, N.C. He has nieces and nephews; Kenneth Mason, Candy Jelley, Randy Gates, Jason Lillie, Aimee Brown, and Matthew Somerville. One aunt, Doris Lillie, and several cousins. Ralph is predeceased by one granddaughter Samantha Bevins. FUNERAL NOTICE: services will be held on Tuesday, March 24, at 12 p.m. at the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME, 628 Main St. in Bennington with Chaplain William Elwell, of the Vermont State Firefighters Association, officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the family lot in Oak Hill Cemetery in Pownal, VT. Friends may call at the funeral Home on Monday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. Members of the Pownal Valley Fire Department and the East Pownal Fired Company Auxiliary are asked to meet at the funeral home at 7 p.m. to pay their respects. Memorial contributions may be made to the Southwestern Vermont Regional Cancer Center, East Pownal Volunteer Fire Department, the Bennington Rescue Squad or the Southwestern Regional Ambulance Services through the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
