Obituary Condolences

MONTPELIER -- Ray A. Greenwood, 98, died Monday, June 20, 2005, at his home on Berlin Street.

Ray, the son of Clinton and Nina (Divoll) Greenwood, was born in Warren on Dec. 3, 1906. He was educated in Warren schools and served in the United States Army in World War II. He then worked for National Life Insurance Company until his retirement.

He married Martha H. Hutchins on Sept. 2, 1939. She died on March 8, 1994.

Ray was a 60-year member of American Legion Post No. 3, joining in 1945. He served on local, state and national legion organizations, including American Legion State Commander in 1957 and on the National Executive Committee from 1959-1960.

He served for 43 years on the children and youth committee of the National American Legion and was responsible for a 100-percent response rate for the Vermont Legion for 29 consecutive years for children and youth reporting.

Ray is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, June 26, at 7 p.m. at Barber and Lanier Funeral Home at 139 Main St. in Montpelier.

Calling hours will be from 5 p.m. until the service time on Sunday, June 26.
