Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Ray D. Witten died peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2006, at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington. He was born in Pleasanton, Texas, Dec. 17, 1909.

He is survived by his wife of 77 years, Estelle M. Witten; a son, R. Marshall Witten, of Shaftsbury; three grandchildren, Lyons Witten, of Amherst, Mass., Amie Witten Smith, of Wellesley, Mass., and Eve Witten, of Anchorage, Alaska, and four great-grandchildren.

Mr. Witten was a construction general superintendent who built oil refineries for major oil companies in the U.S., Canada, South America and Western Europe. He loved fishing, golf and was active in his local church. He moved from his native Texas a year ago and lived with his wife at River’s Edge Community Care Home until his recent illness.

There will be a memorial service at Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home on Saturday, Sept. 23, at 11 a.m.
