Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Funeral services for Raymond B. Prouty Sr. were held at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home on Thursday morning Dec. 21. Conducting the service was the Rev. Deborah Estey pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Bennington. Personal memories and tributes were offered by many family members and friends including Bud Krawczyk who spoke on behalf of the family.

Special musical selections included “Amazing Grace,” “The Old Rugged Cross,” “God Be With You Till We Met Again” and “Just A Closer Walk With Thee.”

Burial with military honors followed in the Prouty family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery with the Rev. Estey offering the committal prayers. Military honors were provided by a contingent from the United States Military Honor Guard under the direction of 2LT Matthew Lynch, the American flag was folded by 2LT Lynch and SPC Nicholas Cook and PV2 Carla Lawyer, the flag was presented to Mr. Prouty’s wife, Lura, by 2Lt Lynch, the taps and echo were sounded by Maurice Rancourt.

Serving as bearers were Mr. Prouty’s twin granddaughters Jennifer and Katie Prouty and great grandson Jason Prouty.

A memorial gathering followed the committal services at the American Legion Post 13. On Wednesday evening at the funeral home members of American Legion Post 13, held services in honor of Mr. Prouty with Commander Patrick Moore and Chaplain Kenneth Coonradt leading the service.

Mr. Prouty, 88, a resident of Vail Road, died Dec. 17, 2006, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center with his family at his side. Arrangements were under the care of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home.
