Reta May Mears

1936 - 2013 Reta May Mears, 77, a resident of Fuller Road, died peacefully Tuesday morning, Aug. 13, 2013, at Albany Medical Center following a brief illness.

The daughter of Samuel and Eva (McMurray) Hunt, she was born in White Creek on April 27, 1936. She received her early education in White Creek and was a graduate of Mt. Anthony Union High School.

Reta had worked at the former Thompson Manufacturing Company. She retired from the dietary department at Weston Hadden (now Centers For Living and Rehabilitation).

She enjoyed being outdoors where she tended to her flowers and gardens, and took great pride in the rock garden she created at her home with the help of her nephew, Rick Monroe. She also enjoyed swimming daily at the Recreation Center, tag sailing and being with her family.

Reta leaves three daughters and sons-in-law, Tina and Tracy Hoyt of Eagle Bridge, Wilma and Peter Clifford of Bennington and Juanita and Scott Mann of Eagle Bridge; brothers, Arthur Hunt of White Creek and John Hunt of Hudson Falls, N.Y.; grandchildren Jessica Clifford, Desiree Leray, Bryan Mann and Adam Mann, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her former husband, Ernest "Sonny" Mears; siblings, Samuel Hunt, Clark Hunt, Ruth Hunt and Pauline Gibson, and granddaughter, Michelle Mears.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the HANSON-WALBRIDGE & SHEA FUNERAL HOME with the Rev. Richard McSherry, pastor of the Shaftsbury Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the Hinsdillville Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m.
