LANESBORO, Mass. -- Reta Timpe Haas, 81, widow of Mervin D. Haas Sr., a resident of Goodell Road, Lanesboro, died Friday, May 30, 2003 at Hillcrest Commons in Pittsfield. Prior to her death, Mrs. Haas had resided at Edgecomb Nursing Home in Lenox.

Born in Kreuss-Peine, Germany, Jan. 27, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Wilhelm and Helene (Mayer) Timpe. She received her education in Germany and was a licensed practical nurse.

In the early 1960s, Mr. and Mrs. Haas owned the M & R Luncheonette on Main Street in North Adams. In earlier years, she was employed at the Hoosac cotton mills. During her nursing career, Mrs. Haas worked at North Adams Regional Hospital, Plunkett Hospital in Adams and the Blue Spruce Nursing Home in North Adams. She also did private duty nursing for several area professional people.

Mr. Haas died in 1995.

Mrs. Haas enjoyed traveling and attending flea markets.

Survivors include two daughters, Helene Loss of Nicolasville, Ky. and Sharon Sargent of Shaftsbury, Vt.; two sons, Mervin D. Haas Jr. of Lanesboro and Michael Haas of Pownal, Vt.; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Friends are invited to attend a prayer service at the George M. Hopkins Funeral Home in Williamstown on Sunday, June 1, 2003 at 6 p.m.

Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 4 p.m. until the time of the service. Private committal services will take place at the family lot in Eastlawn Cemetery, Williamstown.
