Richard N. Brooks

1934-2010 SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY Richard "Dick" N. Brooks, 75, of Saratoga Springs, passed away Saturday, May 1, 2010, at the Crescent Manor Care Center in Bennington, Vt.

Born Aug. 29, 1934, in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late Gilbert N. and Florence Donavon Brooks.

Dick was a reporter for more than 30 years, with 18 years reporting for the Saratogian, 12 years with the Schenectady Gazette and three years with Albany Times-Union. He had received numerous awards from the Associated Press Association and New York Newspaper Publishers Association throughout his career.

Dick leaves his sister, Joan Brooks Reimann of Lakeland, Fla.; his brother, Gary of Argyle, N.Y.; a sister, Denise Brooks Largen of Houston, Texas; his three children, Kelli Brooks DeGraff of Chicago, Ill., Kerri Brooks Edwards of Washington, D.C., and Richard F. Brooks of St. Petersburg, Fla. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Dick was predeceased by his brother, Malcolm, by two weeks.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be conducted at St Peter's Church on Broadway in Saratoga Springs at 2 p.m., Friday, May 7, 2010, with cemetery services immediately following at St. Peters Cemetery. There will be a reception following the cemetery service at Lillian's on Broadway, Saratoga Springs. Burial will be at St. Peter's Cemetery in Saratoga Springs.

Arrangements are under the direction of the MAHAR & SON FUNERAL HOME of 628 Main St., Bennington, Vt., 802-442-2516.
