1946 - 2016 BENNINGTON Richard James Bush, age 69, a resident of the Vermont Veterans Home and formerly of Dermody Road, died on January 1, 2016 following long illness. He was born in Detroit, MI on July 2, 1946, and was the son of the Irving and Ethel (Waffen) Bush. He received his undergraduate education in Michigan and graduated from Mackenzie High School in 1964. While singing with the Michigan Chorale in 1963 and 1964, he traveled with the "Youth For Understanding" to Mexico, Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina and Chile. He had attended several reunions over the years. Richard enrolled in the University of Michigan in 1964 until he entered the Air Force in 1966 and served until 1968 in the Philippines. He was transferred to Mather Air Force Base in California until leaving the Air Force in 1970. Following his military service he moved back to Michigan, where he completed his BA Degree at the University of Michigan in Dearborn. He then moved to Fresno, CA where he attended California State University, and graduated with a Master of Business Administration Degree. Over the years, Richard has been employed at Manufacturers Bank in Detroit, the Burroughs Corporation, and Vangas Corporation. He moved to Bennington, VT in 1979, as a financial manager. From 1980 until 1991 he worked for John Hancock as an agent and manager of the North Adams, MA office. From 1991 until 2002, he was an agent for New York Life. More recently he had been employed by D. B. McKenna, Inc. and the Williams Financial Management Company, from which he retired. Richard has served as President of the Bennington Project Independence, Board of Directors, and was instrumental in getting the new Richard Sleeman Center on Harwood Hill built. He had worked there for a short time as well. He was a member of the Bennington County Choral Society, and former member of the Bennington Rotary. He enjoyed reading, traveling, and singing. Survivors include his wife, Linda of Bennington, three sons; Adam Bush of North Bennington, Mathew Bush of Bennington, and Peter Bush of Bennington. He leaves two grand-daughters: Elizabeth Bush of North Bennington, and Sophia Bush of Fresno, CA. Richard has one aunt, Marion Licata of Dearborn, MI, and several cousins, including, Edward, Susan and Krista Haroutunian of Detroit, MI. Richard is also survived by his mother-in-law Mary Harrington, and his brother-in-law, Harold Harrington, both of North Bennington, VT. He is predeceased by one son, Andre Bush and his parents. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be held on Friday morning, January 8, 2016 at the All Faiths Chapel at the Vermont Veterans Home at 11a.m. Internment will take place privately by his family.
