MANCHESTER -- Richard E. Ameden, 83, a longtime resident of Manchester, died in Bennington on Friday, Sept. 12, 2003, following a brief illness. He was born in Jamaica on Sept. 23, 1919, the son of Wesley and Hazel (Bolster) Ameden. He attended local schools.

He moved to Manchester as a young man was married to Joyce Smith in Arlington on May 2, 1942.

The couple has lived and raised their family in the area since that time.

Richard served his country in the U.S. Army for a brief time in 1943. He worked in the Manchester area as a well respected builder for many years.

He will be remembered as a loving husband and father, master craftsman and a wonderful neighbor.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joyce Ameden of Manchester; his son, Adam Ameden of Wakefield, Mass.; his daughters, Brenda Couture of Essex, Sally Zoufaly of Manchester and Deborah Bennett of Mountain House, Calif.; his brother Jesse Ameden of Arlington; two sisters, Elizabeth Coleman of South Londonderry and Emma Lou Lydon of Port Charlotte, Fla.; four grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 11 a.m. at Brewster Funeral Home in Manchester. The Rev. Debbie Kamm, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Manchester, will officiate. A graveside committal will follow in the Factory Point Cemetery in Manchester. Friends may call Monday, Sept. 15 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
