Richard F. Arrison 1914 - 2009 BENNINGTON Richard F. Arrison, 94, a resident of Marilyn Street, Bennington, died peacefully Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009 at his residence. Born in Alberta, Canada Sept. 4, 1914, son of George and Sarah Kelly Arrison. Dick received his education in both Alberta and Springfield, Vt. A World War II Army veteran, he served as a S/SGT in the Army in the European, African and Middle Eastern Theaters. Dick married the former Evelyn Rounds on Jan. 3, 1948, in Rutland. Mrs. Arrison died March 5, 1999. He first owned the Rutland Storage Garage before returning to Springfield where he was associated with Johnson and Dix Oil Company. He moved to Bennington in the late 1940's where he owned and operated the Johnson Oil Company until his retirement in 1985. A long time member of the Bennington Lions Club, Dick was a life member and past president of the club. He was also a member of the Bennington Elks Lodge 567. In addition to spending time with his family Dick enjoyed working around his home. He leaves a daughter, Patricia Salsburg of Bennington; two grandchildren, Michael Salsburg of Bennington and Jennifer Dorr, and her husband Jeffrey, of Concord, N.H.; four great-grandchildren, Megan, Adrienne and Ryan Dorr and Thomas Salsburg; several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his wife, Dick was predeceased by a daughter, Rebecca L. Zaetz, who died Oct. 3, 1996, and by six sisters and brothers, Violet Vallee, Bernice Johnson, William, Thomas, Gertrude and Ruby Arrison. FUNERAL NOTICE: Memorial services celebrating the life of Richard F. Arrison will be held from the MAHAR & SON FUNERAL HOME Friday, Jan. 13, 2009, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Mary Lee Clark, pastor of the Second Congregational Church officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from noon until the time of the service. Private committal services will take place at Park Lawn Cemetery at the convenience of the family. All members of the Bennington Lions Club are asked to meet at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Friday at 12:30 p.m. to pay respects to the family. Should friends desire contributions in memory of Richard Arrison may be made to Meals on Wheels program through the office of the MAHAR & SON FUNERAL HOME, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
