Richard F. Garant 1930-2008 BENNINGTON Richard Francis Garant died Friday, May 2, at David Grant Medical Center in Fairfield, California. Born Dec. 2, 1930 in Bennington, son of Alphonse and Alice Garant, he graduated from Sacred Heart Elementary School, Bennington High School, class of 1949, and he attended St. Joseph Business College. He attended Solano Community College and held 5 degrees in business management. Mr. Garant retired from the Air Force in 1977 from Travis Air Force Base. He faithfully served 26 years. An avid sportsman, Richard excelled in football, basketball and baseball. Hobbies were skiing and golf. He was also a member of the theatre drama group. His most cherished time was spent with his wife of 53 years, Ann Dailey Garant, whom he married at St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington, on Feb. 22, 1955. Richard and his wife taught C.C.D. for many years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Vermont and an usher at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Fairfield, California. He leaves his wife, his children, and their families: Michael J. Garant and Christopher P. Garant, both of Vacaville, Calif., Thomas M. Garant of Napa, Calif., Kelly T. Garant of Redlands, Calif., Lisa M. Harwick of Glendora, Calif., Pamela J. Garant of Fairfield, Calif., and Mary C. Waldren of Phoenix, Ariz.; his sister, Rita B. Garant of Heber City, Utah; 18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. They were the loves of his life. FUNERAL NOTICE: The family will greet friends at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Fairfield, on Wednesday, May 7, at 6 p.m. prior to the Rosary at 7 p.m. The funeral will be held Thursday, May 8 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be celebrated followed by a burial with full military honors at the Veteran's Cemetery in Dixon, California. Memorial gifts may be made to Alpha Pregnancy Resource Center in Fairfield in lieu of flowers. Arrangements were directed by Fairfield Funeral Home.
