BENNINGTON - Richard D. Haines passed away at home at 318 South Street, in the arms of his loving family on Sept. 16.
Richard was born in Glens Falls, N.Y., on Dec. 1, 1936 to Richard Haines of New York and Elaine Manning Haines Williams of Oregon.
He married Phyllis Swain Aug. 19, 1961, in Fort Wayne, Ind. Phyllis passed away on July 11, 2004. He then married Janet LeBlanc Michaels on July 23, 2005 in Bennington, Vt.
Dick graduated from Queensbury, N.Y., High School in 1954, and received an Associates Degree in Communications Technology and also his FCC license at CCAF- Radio Telephone School in Fort Wayne. A United States Air Force veteran, Dick served for 22 years and retired July 1, 1982, as a Master Sergeant. During this time he was stationed in the Philippines, Japan, Panama, Alaska, and numerous parts of the United States. After his retirement he went to work at Northway Exchange and Capital Digitronics as an Electronics Technician.
He was a member of American Legion Post 13 in Bennington, the Bennington Senior Bowling league and NRA.
He enjoyed hunting & fishing, traveling and camping with his RV.
In addition to his wife Phyllis he was predeceased by his parents, Richard and Elaine Haines.
He leaves three sons, Darrel Haines, and his wife, Beth, of Queensbury, N.Y., David Haines and his wife, Heather, of West Fort Ann, N.Y. and Andrew Haines and his wife Nikki of S. Glens Falls, N.Y.; a daughter, Kim Parks, and her husband Edward, of Philadelphia, Pa.; eleven grandchildren, Jennifer, Ashley, Darrell, Austin, Amber, Shadee, Patrick, Daniel, Rocky, Vincent and Destiny; a brother, James Williams and his wife Joanne of South Glens Falls and his step- father, James Williams of Glens Falls.
He also leaves two step-sons, James Michaels & his wife Jody and David Michaels; a step-daughter, Lynne Wilson and her husband Jerry; eight step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE: Services will be held at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, on Friday, Sept. 19, 2008 at 10 a.m. with his step-son, Pastor James Michaels, officiating.
Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
Graveside committal services will take place Friday at 12:30 p.m. at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY.
Following the committal friends are invited to join the family at the home of Steve and Tammy Degnan, 1396 Tripoli Road, Fort Ann, N.Y. for a time of sharing.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Sacred Heart St Francis de Sales Church Bell Tower Fund through the office of the funeral home.
All members of American Legion Post 13 are asked to meet at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Friday at 9:30 a.m. to conduct services in memory of Richard Haines.
