1936-2010 BENNINGTON Richard Francis "Ranger Rick" Krawczyk, 73, a resident of North Branch Street, passed away Monday, March 29, 2010, at his residence following a brief illness.

Born in Bennington, May 20, 1936, his parents were Helen M. Gallett and William P. Krawczyk.

Rick attended Bennington schools and enlisted in the Navy on May 12, 1954. A veteran of the Korean War, he enlisted prior to his 18th birthday with his parent's permission and served until May 15, 1957, when he was honorably discharged as a Petty Officer 3rd Class.

A resident of Bennington all his life, Rick married the former Roberta "Bea" Myers, on Nov. 2, 1957, at St. John the Baptist Church in North Bennington.

In earlier years he worked as a cobbler at Marra's Shoe Store, was employed at the State Fish Hatchery, worked as a pressman at the Bennington Pottery, and retired from Johnson Controls, where he worked for twenty nine years as a grid pressman and later, in quality control, and finally as a tooling attendant.

His home and family were of great importance to him. During his lifetime, Rick also enjoyed playing horseshoes and helping some of the young folks learn the game. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cribbage. Rick's greatest love was time spent at his camp in Woodford.

The family would like to thank the physicians and staff at both Southwestern Vermont Medical Center and VNA & Hospice of Southwestern Vermont Health Care for the outstanding care given to Rick during his illness.

Besides his wife, Bea, he leaves a daughter, Denise Krawczyk and her partner, Kristin Harvey, of Saranac Lake, N.Y.; a brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Joan Krawczyk of Bennington; four sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Gail Boutin of North Bennington, Nancy (Robert) Bingell of North Bennington, Helen (Richard) Chapman and JoAnn (Frederick) Hammond of Middle Granville, N.Y., and James (Joanne) Myers of Hamilton, Ohio; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
