Obituary Condolences

ARLINGTON -- Richard L. Stroffoleno Sr., 78, a lifelong resident of Arlington, died Sunday morning, July 10, 2005, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington.

He was born in Arlington on Sept. 29, 1926, the son of George James and Rosana (Paro) Stroffoleno and attended local schools. Upon graduating from Arlington High School, Richard enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II and the Korean conflict. Richard was a master carpenter, so accomplished at his trade he was the sought after finish carpenter in the Arlington area.

He married the former Florence Alice Severns in Kittery, Maine, whom he met while stationed at the Portsmouth Naval Base in Portsmouth, N.H. She preceded him in death in September 1991.

Richard loved the outdoors, which was evident by his love for hunting and fishing. He was a Boston Red Sox and an avid Boston Celtics fan. He was a very hard worker who enjoyed helping others and assisting in many family projects. He enjoyed being at his family hunting camp at Kelly Stand in Sunderland and cherished times spent with his family. He was a member of the American Legion Post 69 in Arlington, the Harned Fowler VFW Post 6471 in Manchester and the Arlington Fish and Game Club.

He is survived by two daughters, Ricci. S. Rubick and her husband James of Manchester Center and Judy S. Thompson and her husband Wesley of North Ferrisburg; three sons, Richard “Skip” Strofolleno Jr. of West Arlington, Joseph V. Stroffoleno of Manchester Center and George J. Stroffoleno of Arlington; four grandsons; seven granddaughters; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law whom he helped raise, Helena “Chicky” Foster of Dover, N.H., and Chesley V. Severns of Portsmouth, N.H; three sisters, Barbara Ericksen of West Arlington, Mary Miner of Manchester Center and Dorothy Manning of Puntagorda, Fla.; his brother, Robert Stroffoleno of West Arlington; many nieces and nephews; and close friends, Donald and Marilyn Humphrey of Schenectady, N.Y. He was preceded in death by his brothers, George, Vincent, Francis, James and William and his sisters, Lucille and Anna.

Funeral services for Richard will be held Thursday morning, July 14, 2005, at 11a.m. at the Federated Church of East Arlington. The Rev. Thomas Truscott will conduct the service. Interment will follow in the family lot in West Arlington Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 13, 2005, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Arlington Chapel Route 7A Arlington.
