Richard "C.J." LaRoche Sr.

1931 - 2015 MANCHESTER CENTER Richard "C.J." LaRoche Sr., 83, a resident of Carlen St. died peacefully on Wednesday March 18, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington surrounded by his family. He was born in Bennington, Vt. Nov. 28, 1931. He was the son of the late Joseph and Irene (Betit) LaRoche. Dick received his early education at Sacred Heart School and was a graduate of Bennington High School. He later attended Hudson Valley Community College. From 1950 until 1954 Mr. LaRoche served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. In earlier years Dick was employed as a production manager at Tansitor Electronics, and after moving to Manchester he owned and operated the Sears Roebuck Store. For the last thirty-eight years Dick owned Vermont Carpet from which he retired. Dick was one of the original members of the Manchester Country Club. He loved to play golf and enjoyed building model ships. He also enjoyed going on cruises and was an avid New York Mets and New York Giants fan. Survivors include his wife, Barbara LaRoche, of Manchester; his children, Michelle Haviland of Manchester, Laurie LaRoche of West Palm Beach, Fla., Claudette Martin of Berkeley, Mass., Nicole LaRoche of West Palm Beach, Richard and Barbara's son C.J. LaRoche of New York, N.Y.; three stepchildren, Michael Evans of Granville, N.Y., Mark Evans of Arlington, Vt., and Melissa Rice of Manchester; a daughter-in-law, Jana LaRoche of Exeter, N.H.; fourteen grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert LaRoche of Calispell, Mont., and Paul LaRoche of Bennington; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was pre-deceased by two sons, Anthony "Keith" LaRoche, and Christopher LaRoche; two sisters, Martina Maloney, and Claire Regini; and three brothers, Leo, Francis, and Andre LaRoche. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from Saint Paul's Catholic Church in Manchester on Saturday March 21, at 11 a.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered. Friends may call at the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME 385 Bonnet St. on Saturday from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m.. In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Mr. LaRoche may be made to either the Vermont Veterans Home Activities Fund or the Manchester Rescue Squad through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home PO Box 1316 Manchester Center, VT 05255.
