MIDDLETOWN, R.I. -- Richard Lee Hackett, 56, of West Main Road, Middletown, died unexpectedly, Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, at Kent County Memorial Hospital Warwick.

He was the husband of Elizabeth (Miner) Hackett.

Born in Newport, Vt., on June 27, 1948, he was the son of William Lee and Mary Jane (Letourneau) Hackett of Newport.

Mr. Hackett was in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era. He worked for Electric Boat in Quonset Point for four years. Prior to working at Quonset Point he worked at Valen Valve in Vermont for many years. Mr. Hackett enjoyed NASCAR racing and wood working.

Besides his wife and parents, he is survived by two sons William Hackett and Craig Hackett both of Bennington, Vt.; his step-daughter, Jerri Kim Evans of Middletown; his brother, David Hackett of Pa.; two sisters, Linda Gibson of Isle Lamotte, Vt., and Mary Anne Cratton of Burlington, Vt.; grandson, Christopher Potts Jr. of Middletown; granddaughters, Harley Evans, Emily Evans and Isabella Evans Middletown, and grandson Jackson Potts Tiverton.

He was the step-father of the late Christopher Potts.

His funeral will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at 12 p.m. in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.

Calling hours will be held the morning of his service from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be private. Online condolences, information, directions are available on the Web at www.memorialfuneralhome.com.
