Rev. Richard Lenehan Obituary
Rev. Richard O. Lenehan

BENNINGTON Richard O. Lenehan, 93, passed into the presence of his Lord on Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at Emeritus at Fillmore Pond, Bennington. Richard was born in Avon, Mass., and was the son of Howard and Kathryn Lenehan. He graduated from Avon High School in Massachusetts. As a young man, Richard began a lifetime commitment to the Lord by inviting the Jesus into his life. He also learned auto and plane mechanics and earned his pilot's license while working at a local airport. He joined the Army Air Corps during World War II, serving most of his military time training aircraft crews. While in the Army Air Corps, he married Edna Erickson. For a short time after his discharge, Richard owned and operated an excavating business. He then felt called by the Lord into fulltime Christian ministry. He graduated from the Missionary Training Institute (now Nyack College), and was accepted by the Christian and Missionary Alliance for missionary service in Dutch New Guinea, now Papua, Indonesia. During this time he was a co-pilot and mechanic for missionary supply planes. Upon returning to America, Richard became a minister and served in churches in Buzzards Bay, Mass., Bennington and Rutland, and Buffalo, N.Y. While retired, he also served as interim pastor in churches in Ballston Spa, N.Y., Westfield, Mass., and Berlin, N.Y. His last ministry was at Emeritus at Fillmore Pond where he led services for several years. Richard's wife of 57 years, Edna, predeceased him. He is survived by son, Richard Jr.; daughters, Rosalie and Nancy; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; his sister, Marion Carlson, and nieces and nephews. Richard was predeceased by brothers, Howard Lenehan and Roger Lenehan. FUNERAL NOTICE: A graveside service will be conducted Friday, June 27, at 12:30 p.m. at the Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, N.Y. A memorial service will be conducted by the Rev. Jonathan Youngman on Saturday, July 5, at 2 p.m. at the Hoosick Falls Community Alliance Church, 484 Hill Rd., Hoosick Falls, N.Y. The family may be greeted one hour before or after the memorial service. Friends and family are invited to join us at both of these services. We, as a family, want to thank the many people who so graciously and kindly enriched Dad's life. Your time and thoughtfulness was a great gift to him and to us. We also want to recognize and thank the many people of Emeritus at Fillmore Pond who so wonderfully cared for Dad, loved him, and did so much to help him. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Richard Lenehan to the Building Fund of the Hoosick Falls Community Alliance Church, 484 Hill Rd, Hoosick Falls, NY 12090, or to the Parkinson's Foundation through MAHAR SONS FUNERAL HOME, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.
