Richard E. Maloney
1929 - 2010 BENNINGTON, VT Richard Emmett Maloney, 81, died peacefully on March 17, 2010, in Bennington.
Born in Bennington May 29, 1929, son of James and Alma LaFlamme Maloney. Dick attended school in Bennington and graduated from Bennington High School. A Korean War veteran, he served in the Air Force from 1950 1954, receiving several medals during that time. He attended Saint Michael's College and the University of Connecticut.
Most of his life, Dick lived in Connecticut. He worked for the railroad in Bridgeport and Hartford. Later, he worked for Choice Vend in Windsor Locks, Funkhouser Industrial Products in East Granby, and also for Cohoes in East Windsor. In 1998, after he retired, he was recognized by the Hartford Courant for his volunteering. "For over six years Richard has taken his neighbors shopping and to medical appointments. He visits them when they're sick, helps them start their cars, shovels snow, waters plants and helps with other chores."
Dick was very active and some of his favorite pursuits were playing golf, riding his bike and taking walks. In his later years, he moved to Williamstown, Mass.
He leaves two sisters, Patricia McCormack of Dillsburg, Pa., and Lucille Hurd of Torrington, Conn.; a brother, Edward Maloney of Hemet, Calif., and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a sister, Marie Holmes, and by six brothers, James, John, Andrew, Robert, Joseph, and William Maloney. He was a special uncle to the McCormack children after their father died.
FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the MAHAR & SON FUNERAL HOME Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. with a prayer and from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church at 11 a.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered.
Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 4 to 6:30 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
Burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.
Should friends desire, contributions in Richard Maloney's memory may be made to either Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church or to the Acvtivities Fund at the Vermont Veterans Home through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
