Richard Myers 1927-2009 BENNINGTON Richard Myers, 82, a resident of Main Street in Bennington died on Saturday morning, February 14, 2009 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington following a long illness. He was born in Bennington on December 8, 1927 son of John and Jennie Elle Stratton Myers. He received his education in local schools and was a graduate of Bennington High School. He also graduated from St. Joseph's Business School and from Castleton State Teachers College. In earlier years, he had taught in North Adams, Mass. and various local elementary schools. For over 25 years Richard had been a bartender at the former Paradise Restaurant in Bennington and had also managed the Paradise Motel. He served in the Navy during the time of the Korean War. He was an avid cook and gardener, and loved vacationing in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. at Dolly World. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales parish in Bennington. He leaves one sister, Marie Townsend and her husband, Robert, of Bennington, and two brothers, James Myers of Brewster, N.Y. and Robert Myers and his wife, Edith, of Bennington. He also leaves several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one brother, Norman Myers. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be held on Thursday morning, February 19, 2009 at 10 a.m. at the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME in Bennington with the Reverend Michael DeMasi, officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in the Village Cemetery on Morgan Street in Bennignton. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the support of the poor, through the Reverend Michael DeMasi, at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
