Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Funeral services for Richard R. “Dickie” Hollister were held at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home Saturday morning June 26. Officiating was the Rev. John Goyette, pastor of the Green Mountain Christian Center.

Personal reflections and memories of Mr. Hollister were shared by many in attendance including by his father Richard Hollister, brothers Tyler, Alan and David Hollister, sisters Gloria Rogers and Bonnie Wilkins, nephew David Hollister Jr. and Pastor Goyette.

The hymn of reflection was “What A Friend We Have in Jesus.” Serving as bearers were brothers Alan Hollister, David Hollister, Tyler Hollister, brother-in-law Craig Becker and Ted Stelmark and David Higgins.

Burial with full military honors followed in the Woodford Cemetery with Pastor Goyette offering the committal prayers, Mr. Hollister’s son Daniel offered personal reflections and a tribute to his father; a letter written by a sister, Pam Ketzner, who was unable to attend, was read by Bonnie Wilkins; nephew Steven Hollister sang “The Rose.” The flag draping the casket of the U.S. Naval veteran under the direction of Sgt. 1st Class Briggs was folded by members of the Vermont Army National Guard and presented to Mr. Hollister’s son, Daniel by Sgt. Briggs. Following the 21-gun salute by the firing squad, the taps and echo were sounded by Maurice Rancourt. A memorial reception followed at the home of Richard and Janet Hollister.

On Friday evening, officers and members of the Bennington Fire Department paid their respects to the family at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home.

Mr. Hollister, 66, a resident of Rake Branch Trail in Searsburg, died June 22 at the Vermont Veterans Home.

Arrangements were under the care of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home.
