HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- Rita Burns, 84, died Thursday, May 31, at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington, Vt. She formerly resided on Church Street in Hoosick Falls with her husband, William Burns.

Rita was born on March 9, 1923, Schenectady, daughter of the late Harry and Nora (O’Malley) Mathers. She graduated from Hoosick Falls High School. Rita worked at the Key Bank in Hoosick Falls for 20 years until retiring. She and her husband spent winter months in St. Augustine, Fla. Rita was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America at the Immaculate Conception Church in Hoosick Falls, where she was also a communicant. She enjoyed gardening, golf and traveling.

Survivors other than her husband William include her daughter, Barbara Ann Marsh of El Paso, Texas; her son, Michael Edward Burns of Highland Park, Ill.; and six grandchildren. Rita was predeceased by a sister, Harriet Fuscell.

Funeral services will be Monday, June 4, at 12:30 p.m. from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main St., in Hoosick Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 1 p.m. from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will follow the mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation through the funeral home
