Rita Elizabeth Foley Earley 1917-2012 BENNINGTON Rita Elizabeth Foley Earley, 95, a resident of Elm Street passed away peacefully July 21, 2012 at her home surrounded by loving caregivers and family. Mrs. Earley was born in Malone, N.Y., on May 25, 1917 the daughter of Walter Thomas and Mary Elizabeth (Barry) Foley. Mrs. Earley received her early education in Malone, graduating from Franklin Academy in 1937 and completed a degree in Home economics at the University of the State of New York, Canton in 1939. After completing an internship at Yonkers General Hospital, she began work as a dietician at the Samaritan Hospital in Troy, N.Y., where she met and married businessman Myron H. Earley of Wells, N.Y. The couple moved to Hoosick Falls, New York in 1945 when Mr. Earley took a position with the Wood Flong Corporation. It was there they raised their family until moving to Bennington, Vermont in 1959. Rita was a devoted mother and loyal friend. She was an avid cook, baker and canner, known to favorite nieces and nephew Maureen, Bridget and Kevin as Betty Crocker. In addition to her love of family and culinary arts, Rita enjoyed spending time at the family camp on Lake St. Catherine Room #1 was aptly Rita's room. She also enjoyed her travels to Ireland, Hawaii and Florida. Mrs. Earley is survived by her children Sharon Poupart of Southington, Conn., and Stephen Earley and his wife Clare of Richmond, Vt., and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Myron, son-in-law Ron Poupart, sisters Kathleen Pelkey, Margaret Johanson and Eileen Ward brother Barry Foley. The family gratefully acknowledges the loving care for "Miss Rita" by a wonderful team of caregivers and give a special thanks to Sheila Harrington and Anne Greene. FUNERAL NOTICE: A mass of Christian death and burial will be celebrated Friday morning July 27, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart, St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. Burial will be held Tuesday July 31, 2012 at 10am at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Malone, New York. Visiting hours will be held Friday July 27, 2012 at Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home from 9 to 10 a.m., one hour prior to the mass.
