Rita Farrington

1920-2010 BENNINGTON Mrs. Rita Farrington, 89, wife of Leonard F. Farrington, a resident of South Branch Street, died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010, at her residence following a long illness.

Born in Indian Orchard, Mass. on May 26, 1920, daughter of Alphonse B. and Susan Mae Brousseau Gauthier, she received her education in the Bennington schools.

Rita and Len were married 68 years ago on June 15, 1941, at St. Francis de Sales rectory in Bennington

Rita was extremely devoted to her family and was always very caring and concerned about the lives of her children, grand-children, great-grandchildren and her great great-grandson.

She enjoyed traveling, bowling and needlework.

Besides her husband, she leaves two daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and Robert Provensal, and Carol and John Griffin, and a daughter-in-law, Joanne Farrington, all of Bennington; nine grandchildren, Debbie Reed, Wendy Douglass, Tracy Provensal, Bonnie Kozlowski, Michelle DeCosmo, Scott Farrington and Michael, John and Eric Griffin; 13 great-grandchildren, Amy Niles, Jeremy and Jerrica Reed, Heather and Erin Douglass, Justin and Jenna Spencer, Nathan and Meghan DeCosmo, Abby and Luke Farrington and Gabrielle and Hannah Griffin, and a great great-grandson, Keegan Niles; two sisters, Helen Whitman and Claire Bishop, both of Bennington; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins.

Rita was predeceased by a son, Leo L. "Butch" Farrington, who died Jan. 18, 2001, and by eight brothers and sisters, Evelyn Dakin, Mildred Blake, Rhea Pronto, Benjamin, Ernest, Leo, Francis and Robert Gauthier.

FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from THE MAHAR & SON FUNERAL HOME, Friday, Jan. 22, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. with a prayer and from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church at 11 a.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered.

Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 4-7 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. Private committal services will take place at Park Lawn Cemetery at the convenience of the family

Should friends desire, contributions may be made to the Southwestern Vermont Regional Cancer Center or Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
