1945 - 2011 Obituary Condolences
COSSAYUNA, N.Y. - Rita Thygesen passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 14, 2011.
She was born on Dec. 24, 1945, the daughter of the late Aldor and Gertrude McGeoch Royal.
Rita grew up in Cambridge. She attended St. Mary's Catholic School in Hoosick Falls, and graduated in 1965.
Rita married Carl Thygesen on Aug. 10, 1968. They settled in Cossayuna, where they owned and operated Bunker Hill Farms together, raising registered Holstein cattle and assorted other farm animals.
She was always happy to lend a helping hand to family, friends, and neighbors. She also enjoyed volunteering for many local organizations.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Carl Thygesen, who passed away in November 2010; by a brother, Edmund; by a nephew, Michael, and a sister-in-law, Helen.
She leaves her son, Kyle Thygesen and his wife, Jennifer, and grandson Keenan, of Tunbridge, Vt; a brother, John Royal and his wife, Joanne, of Corinth, and a sister, Marie McLenithan of Connecticut, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Rita was blessed to have many close friends and neighbors who cared about her, and were especially helpful to her over the past year.
FUNERAL NOTICE: At her request, there will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 2, 2011, at Bottskill Baptist Church, Church Street, Greenwich, with the Rev. Sandra Spaulding, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are under the care of the M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 123 Main St., Argyle, NY 12809.
The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Bancroft Public Library, Salem, NY 12865 or Cossayuna Volunteer Fire Dept. 1st Responders, P.O. Box 321, Cossayuna, NY 12823.
