1927 - 2015 BENNINGTON Robert L. Bernstein, 88 a former resident of Orchard Road in Bennington, and more recently of Village at Fillmore Pond, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 after a period of declining health. The son of Charles and Frances Cohen Bernstein, he was born in Bangor, ME on June 11, 1927. He graduated from The University of Maine and continued his education at Bentley College where he received a degree in accounting. Bob was a Naval Veteran of World War II, serving in the Philippines. He enjoyed his career as a cost accountant for various firms including Maxmillian Construction in Pittsfield, MA for over 20 years. His adored wife, Dorothy, passed away on February 28, 2014, after 61 loving years together. He leaves his daughters, Margie Collins and husband, Bill of North Bennington and Sue Bernstein of Spofford, NH, sons, Dr. Charles Bernstein and wife, Wendy of Northhampton, MA and David Bernstein of Tallahassee, FL, grandchildren, Scott Collins, Stefanie, Olivia and Davis Bernstein, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is survived by brothers Steven and Ari Bernstein of Maine. He was predeceased by a twin brother Albert of Bangor ME, last June. Bob's positive attitude and ability to embrace life in all it's different stages was an inspiration to those whose lives he touched. At the request of Robert, there will be no funeral service or calling hours. If friends desire, memorial gifts may be made to the Second Chance Animal Shelter in care of the Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home, 213 West Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
