HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- Robert J. Burns, 69, died suddenly Friday, Feb. 16, at his residence on the North Hoosick Road. He was the son of the late Vincent and Anna (Williams) Burns.

Robert was born Aug. 7, 1937, in Hoosick Falls and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy Class of 1955. He also graduated from St. Joseph’s College in Bennington, Vt., with an accounting degree.

Robert worked at several area businesses including Columbia Box Board, National Savings Bank of Albany, Cushman Furniture in Bennington, Vt., Security at the Saratoga Flat Track and at Paul J. Martin Oil Company in Bennington, Vt., retiring in 2000. He loved his home known as “Willowbrook” and took great pride in it. He was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception church in Hoosick Falls.

Survivors include three sisters, Ann McCormick of Schuylerville, Joan James and Kay Lanoue both of Hoosick Falls; nephew, Philip Lanoue and his wife, Deanne, and their children, Philip IV, Patrick, Jessica and Samantha all of Melrose; and nephew, Vinny James and his wife, Mary, of Hoosick Falls; and Aunt Marion Mitchell of Amsterdam; he is also survived by several cousins. Robert enjoyed his dog Sabrina.

Funeral services will be Thursday, 10:30 a.m. from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 11 a.m. from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 9 a.m. until the start of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Second Chance animal Shelter or St. Mary’s Academy through the funeral home.
