Robert C. Moeller 1919-2008 GLENS FALLS, N.Y. - Robert C. Moeller, 88, Falls, N.Y. passed away on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008, at his home on Glen Street. Born Nov. 19, 1919, in Hartford, Conn., son of John N. Moeller and Caroline Schuler Moeller, Robert was a Coast Guard veteran. He enlisted Aug. 1, 1941 and was honorably discharged on Aug. 1, 1946, as a yeoman 2nd class. During his service time he was stationed in Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey. Upon discharge he received a Good Conduct Medal and the WWII Victory and American Campaign ribbons. He worked for 36 years at Union Carbide Co. retiring in 1982. He then enjoyed every day of his 25 year retirement. True to his long commitment of helping, he had been involved in Demolay, Masons, the United Methodist Church, Friends of the Bennington Library, Southern Vermont Hospital and Red Cross Blood Donation. He was the Vermont Library Trustee of the Year. His passions were amateur radio, canoeing, train watching, model railroading, and baking. Dad was a self-made man who overcame obstacles to better himself. He reached the master level of ham radio and computer proficiency. He designed and built a house for his family. No job seemed too large or too menial. He never half did anything. He was ready and eager to lend a helping hand. Dad loved people and always wanted to interact with them. In 1942 he met the girl of his dreams while lifting her suitcase to the overhead rack of a passenger train. He said, "That's the girl I'm going to marry." Caroline Mary Lyon and he were married 63 years this past August. Besides the love of his life, Caroline L. Moeller, of Glens Falls; he leaves a son, Robert C. Moeller, II and his wife Diana of Hackensack, N.J., a daughter, Christine L. Walton and her husband, Terry, of Glens Falls; granddaughter, Jennifer Y. Moeller of Brooklyn; granddaughter, Dana Walton, of Brighton, Colo.; grandson, Gregory Walton, of New York; grandson, Erich W. Moeller, of Fairlawn, N.J.; and a brother, Norman Moeller, of West Caldwell, N.J. Also many nieces, nephews, and cousins in the US and Germany survive him. Besides his parents, three brothers: John, Raymond and Ralph Moeller predeceased Robert. FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service will be celebrated on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Christ Church United Methodist, Bay Street, Glens Falls. At the request of the family, there will be no visiting hours and a private burial service will follow.
