Obituary Condolences

ARLINGTON -- Funeral services for Robert “Big Bear” E. Stevens were held Thursday morning Jan. 6, 2005, at the Four Chaplains, all faiths chapel at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington.

The Rev. John Foster conducted the service. The hymns “Amazing Grace” and “Just A Closer Walk With Thee” were performed by Mr. Stevens’ daughter, Roberta Blackburn and her husband Jeff on the guitar.

The Rev. Foster offered the scripture readings and the eulogy. Words of remembrance were offered by many of “Big Bear’s” family and friends. A special song entitled “I Forgive” dedicated to Mr. Steven’s memory was sung by Roberta and Jeff to end the service.

The American Flag that draped the veterans casket was folded by American Legion, Post 69, Arlington Color Guard members Commander Tom Hayes, Fred Sheldon and Gary Wilkins and presented to Mr. Steven’s daughter, Roberta by Commander Hayes.

Committal services were held Friday morning Jan. 7, 2005, in West Meetinghouse Cemetery in New Milford, Conn. The family offered prayers and reflections. Robert “Big Bear” E. Stevens, of Jasper Lane in Arlington, died Monday Jan. 3, 2005, at Southwestern Medical Center in Bennington. Arrangements were under the care of Hanson-Walbridge Arlington Chapel, Route 7A Arlington.
