BENNINGTON -- Robert Edward Maguire, 71, a resident of County Street, Bennington, died unexpectedly Thursday, Nov. 13, 2003 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington.

Born in Bennington September 23, 1932 he was the son of the late John “Jack” Maguire and Mary (McGuire) Maguire. He received his education in Bennington and was a graduate of the former Bennington High School.

Bob was a veteran of the Korean Conflict were he served as a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps.

He married the former Elaine Stafford at St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington on Dec. 26, 1952.

Bob was well known throughout the Bennington area as the owner of Bob’s Barber Shop, currently located on School Street, which he operated for many years until the time of his death.

He was a member of the Bennington Elks Lodge 567, American Legion Post 13 and the Raccoon Club.

An avid outdoorsman, he especially enjoyed fishing, hunting and following local sports teams. Bob’s favorite pastime was spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine Maguire of Bennington; six children, Michael and James Maguire, both of West Rutland, William Maguire of Acton, Mass., Scott Maguire and Patti Maguire, both of Bennington and Ann Maguire of Pittsfield, Mass.; 10 grandchildren; a sister, Helen Jones and a brother, John Maguire, both of Bennington.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Monday, Nov. 17, 2003 at 11 a. m.

Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 4 to 7 p. m. when the family will be in attendance.
