Robert H. Sherman 1927 - 2009 BENNINGTON Robert H. Sherman, 81, of County Street died Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at his residence, following a brief illness. Born in Bennington on June 8, 1927, the son of Frank A. and Margaret Fay Sherman, he received his education in local schools. He served with the Navy during World War II. During his working career, he was employed as a carpenter, working in Local 260 from Pittsfield, Mass. His last position was as a Construction Supervisor with Tierney Construction Company. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge and the American Legion in Bennington. Following his retirement, he enjoyed refinishing furniture, antiquing and taking in Tag and Garage sales, always looking for "that good deal." Robert was a member of the First Baptist Church. Robert was predeceased by his wife,Edna Dockerty Sherman, who died Oct 26, 1986. He leaves his life companion, Mary Snyder of Bennington; his son and daughter-in-law, John and Wanda Sherman of White Creek, N.Y.; his daughter and son-in-law, Joanne and Larry Gauthier of Bennington; his stepdaughter, Sandra Williams of Bennington; five grandchildren, Jennifer Loyzelle and her husband, Tom; Heather Dyer and her husband, John; Heidi Gauthier, Matthew Gauthier and Marie Sherman; two step-granddaughters, Holly and Michelle Williams, five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. FUNERAL NOTICE: Services will be Friday, May 22, 2009, at the MAHAR and SON FUNERAL HOME, 628 Main St., at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jerrod Hugenot officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery, where military honors will be offered.Friends may call at the funeral home today, Thursday, at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Second Chance Animal Shelter through the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
