BENNINGTON -- Robert J. Kalinowski Sr., 75, a resident of West Street, Bennington, died peacefully Sunday, Nov. 25, 2007, at his residence surrounded by his family.

He was born in Hoosick Falls, N.Y., July 20, 1932. He was the son of the late Anthony and Tillie (Pytko) Kalinowski. Bob received his education in Hoo-sick Falls.

Bob was first married to the former Marjorie Hicks who died in 1959. He later married the former Florence T. Maynard Feb. 27, 1960. Mrs. Kalinowski died March 28, 2006.

In earlier years Bob was employed as a truck driver for Gays Express, Blue Flame Gas, and for 40 years Bob was employed at Fairbanks Express from which he retired. Following his retirement Bob was active in the family business, the Family Pub and Cinema from 1992-1996.

An avid sports fan, Bob enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports and attended many school events. He was a great supporter of all Mount Anthony sports. Bob also enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a great New York Yankees fan. Bob was known to drop what he was doing to lend a helping hand.

In 2006 he was named Volunteer of the Year by the Vermont State Health Care Association. He was also very active participating in numerous fund-raising events for many community causes. Bob was well known for his tasty fudge. Bob was a member of the Bennington Lodge of Elks 567, Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church and a former member of the Knights of Columbus Council 307.

Survivors include his children, Jean Kalinowski Stenhouse of Lansing, Mich., Joyce Pratt Dufresne of Bennington, Ed Kalinowski and his wife Loreen of Sherman, Maine; Karen Pratt Burnell and her husband Jay of Bennington, Vermont State Police Sgt. Robert Kalinowski and his wife Bonnie of Pownal, and Theresa “Terry” Lipinski of Rockledge, Fla.; 16 grandchildren, Julie, Jessie, Erin, Katie, Jonathan, Sara, R.J., Whitney, Dallas, Morgan, Robert, Tina, Andre, Betty, Shannon and Kevin; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles Kalinowski of Massepequa, N.Y., and a sister Patricia Smith of Eagle Bridge, N.Y.; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a grandson Gunnar Halsey Greene, three brothers Edward, Theodore and Anthony Kalinowski, and two sisters, Helen Bakaitis and Irene Dudek.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar and Son Funeral Home Thursday, Nov. 29, 2007, with a prayer at 10:30 a.m. and then from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church at 11 a.m. where the Mass of Resurrection will be offered.

The burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007, from 5 to 9 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.
