Robert J. Murphy 1925-2008 HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. Robert J. Murphy, 83, died Thursday, June 26 at the Danforth Adult Care Center. Born on March 26, 1925 in Hoosick Falls, son of William and Catherine Burns Murphy, he graduated from Hoosick Falls High School. An Army veteran of World War II, Robert took part in the European Theater, the Asian Pacific Theater and in occupational forces in Tokyo, Japan. He received the World War II Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal. He was a member of The Hoosick Falls American Legion Post #40. Robert worked for Home Gas for many years before he became the owner. He was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church. He leaves his sister, Sister Genevieve of St. Joseph's Carondelet in Latham, N.Y.; a brother, Walter Murphy of Aurora, Colo.; four nephews and several grand nieces and nephews and a a great-grand niece and nephew. Robert was predeceased by two sisters, Eleanor Murphy and Mary Murphy; and by three brothers, Lawrence, Francis and William Murphy. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 2, at 10:30 from the MAHAR FUNERAL HOME, 43 Main St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday at 11 a.m. from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street. Burial will follow the Mass at St. Mary's Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the start of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Rensselaer County Community Hospice through the funeral home.
