Robert "Bob" John Steller 1925 - 2009 PETERSBURGH, NY Robert "Bob" John Steller passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at the Vermont Veterans Home on Aug. 10th 2009. Born May 23rd, 1925, to Howard & Elizabeth MacDonald Steller, he was raised and educated in Whitestone, N.Y. Prior to enlisting in the service he worked alongside his dad at their family garage. He proudly served his country in the Navy as an aviation mechanic and a belly gunner during World War II. He moved his family from Whitestone to the peaceful valley of North Petersburg 51 years ago. This is where he has enjoyed raising his family. Bob, as his friends knew him, worked at various construction jobs as a Master Mechanic and was a proud member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 106. He retired from General Cable as a maintenance mechanic. He enjoyed spending time with his family, doing crossword puzzles and woodworking. He was a great storyteller, especially around the campfire. He enjoyed sharing his talents and knowledge with others. He leaves his wife of 62 years "Betty Boop" Steller and his best pal "Zoey"; son, Robert H. Steller of Old Orchard Beach, Maine, daughter, Nancy L. VanDerKar and Jack, of Hoosick Falls, son Stephen T. Steller and Simone of North Petersburg, son, Howard J. Steller and Jessica of North Hoosick, son, Fred E. Steller and Vicki of North Petersburg; nine grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, sister, Barbara Lambert and William of Port Jefferson, N.Y., brother, Jack Steller of Hoosick Falls and several nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by a daughter, Donna D. Steller and grandson Howard Steller III, brother, Howard and Micky Steller, sisters, Mary and Buddi Sherman and Shirley Cotiaux, and daughters-in-law Theresa and Terry Steller and P. Lynn Steller. MEMORIAL NOTICE: A memorial service celebrating the life of Robert Steller will to be held Sept. 19th, 2009, at the North Petersburg Chapel at a time to be announced. At Mr. Steller's request there will be no calling hours. Graveside committal services will be held Thursday, Aug. 13, 2009 at Flushing Cemetery in Queens, N.Y. at 11 a.m. Should friends desire memorial contributions in Robert Steller's memory may be made to the North Petersburgh Chapel through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
