ARLINGTON -- Robert Walsh, 36, a lifelong resident of Arlington, died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003 at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover, N.H. He was born in Bennington Nov. 25, 1967 the son of Joseph and Marlene (Willard) Walsh. He attended local schools. He graduated from Arlington Memorial High School with his class even after a diving accident that left him paralyzed for life and hospitalized for the eight months prior to graduation. He continued his education taking several college courses in accounting.

In his youth, Bobby enjoyed sports and was active in Arlington soccer and baseball. He was a longtime Boy Scout and huge NASCAR fan. He worked for the Cullinan’s Store in Arlington before and after his accident. He worked for two years at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington before working as an accountant from his home. He also worked for the state as an advocate for people with disabilities. He made sure facilities kept in compliance with handicap codes and accessibility. Following his death, Bobby’s kind generosity continued when his organs were successfully donated to help others, giving them the precious gift of life.

Bobby gave back to the community that had given him so much, when he started a fund drive to help the Wilcox farm after a fire took their barn. Bobby was a stubborn perfectionist and was very good at anything he wanted to do. He was a good friend and neighbor. His sharp sense of humor helped him thrive through life’s obstacles. He will be dearly missed by his family and many friends He is survived by his mother and father of Detroit, Texas; his brothers, Max and wife Alice Walsh of Detroit, Dwain and wife Ella Walsh of Hubbertona, and Scott Walsh of Arlington; his sisters, Michelle Ennis of Fairhaven, and Linda Naaktgeboren and husband Andrew of East Arlington; and several nieces and nephews, including Kyle Naaktgeboren.

A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, 2 p.m. at the Hanson-Walbridge Arlington Chapel. The Rev. Thomas Truscott of the Federated Church in East Arlington will officiate. His cremated remains will be committed to the earth in the Evergreen Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
