Robert E. Keough

1925-2010 NORTH BENNINGTON Mr. Robert E. Keough, 84, a resident of Homestead Mews, North Bennington, died Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010, at Bennington Health and Rehabilitation.

Born in Bennington, Jun. 6, 1925, son of Martin Leo and Mary Powers Keough, he received his education in North Bennington and was a graduate of the former North Bennington High School class of 1944.

In earlier years Bob was employed by the furniture manufacturer A.S. Payne Company in North Bennington. Later the company was purchased by Bob's father and uncles and renamed Keough Brothers. Bob worked in the family business until 1958. He later was employed for many years at Powers Market in North Bennington.

A life member of the Bennington Elks Lodge 567 and a Fourth Degree Life Member of the Knights of Columbus Council #307, Bob was also a Past President and a life member of the NorShaft Lions Club and was a recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award. Bob was also an honorary member of the North Bennington Fire Department and served 36 consecutive years on the Board of Civil Authority in Bennington.

Bob was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in North Bennington.

He leaves nieces, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins and many friends in the community. Bob was predeceased by a sister, Frances K. Nash, in 1975.

FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the MAHAR & SON FUNERAL HOME Friday, Jan. 8, 2010 at 9:15 a.m. with a prayer and from St. John the Baptist Catholic Church at 10 a.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered.

Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Thursday from 4 - 6 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. Burial will take place in the family lot in St. Johns Cemetery, North Bennington.

If friends desire, contributions may be made to the NorShaft Lions Sight Conservation Fund through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.

All members of the NorShaft Lions Club are asked to meet at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Thursday afternoon at 5:30 p.m. to pay their respects to the family of Robert Keough. Guest book condolences may be made at www.maharandsonfuneralhome.net.
