WALLOOMSAC, N.Y. -- Robert M. Starr Jr., 65, passed away peacefully Monday, Dec. 24, 2007, surrounded by family and friends at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, Vt.. He resided in Walloomsac with his wife Donna (Pugliese) Starr.

Robert, the son of the late Robert and Emily (Gates) Starr Sr., was born on July 14, 1942, in Buskirk, N.Y. He attended schools in Cambridge and Hoosick Falls. Robert served in the Army as a mechanic during the Vietnam War from 1963 to 1966, achieving the rank of Specialist 4. He worked at the former Columbia Box, now Bennington Paper Board Co. in Walloomsac, retiring after 40 years of service to the company.

Robert enjoyed playing darts and was in the local league for over 30 years. He also was a coach at the Little League in Hoosick Falls and a supporter of Hoosick Falls football. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. Robert especially enjoyed being a father and spending time with his family.

Survivors other than his wife, Donna, include his sons and daughter-in-laws Robert Starr III and Angie of Bennington, Vt., Steven Starr and fiance Jeanne of Cohoes, N.Y., Donald Starr and Patricia of Watertown, N.Y. and Charles Starr and Amy of Hoosick Falls. Robert is also survived by two sisters Helen Matte and husband John of Hoosick Falls and Francis Grant of White Creek, N.Y., two brothers William Starr and wife Sandra of Mineral Wells, Texas, and Ervin Starr and fiance Laura of Cambridge, N.Y., two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 29, at 11 a.m. from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main St. in Hoosick Falls with his brother Reverend William Starr conducting the service. Burial will follow the service at Hoosick Rural Cemetery in Hoosick. Friends and family will gather at the North Hoosick Fire House following the burial.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, Dec. 28, from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Desiree and Marissa Starr Scholarship Fund through the funeral home.
