CAMBRIDGE, N.Y. -- Robert Michael “Mike” Shay, 39, of Madison Avenue, died peacefully, Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004, at Bennington Health and Rehabilitation after a long illness.

Born Tuesday, June 8, 1965, in Bennington, he was the son of Robert E. and Kathryn McCarthy Shay of Cambridge. The family lived in Schenectady, Glens Falls, Messina, Heubelton and Syracuse. They moved to Cambridge in 1977. Mike was a graduate of Cambridge Central School and worked in the housekeeping department at Mary McClellan Hospital until the hospital closed.

He was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church.

Baseball was one of Mike’s joys in life. He was a die-hard New York Yankees fan and went to many major league games.

He was also a devoted Cambridge Indians fan and really appreciated his friends who took him to the out-of-town games.

Besides his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Kathy Shay Woodruff of Greenwich and Nancy Shay Stefanovich and husband George, of Cambridge; a brother, Patrick Shay of Cambridge, two nieces and three nephews.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on Friday, Sept. 10, 2004, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Ackley & Ross Funeral Home, 73 West Main St., Cambridge.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Father Liam Condon at St. Patrick’s Church, 17 South Park St., Cambridge on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, at 10 a.m.

Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Center Cambridge Road, Cambridge.

There will be a reception at the Capt. Maxson American Legion Post, State Route 22, Cambridge, following the burial.

Mike requested memorial contributions be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
