Robert P. Morton 1943 - 2011 BENNINGTON, VT Robert P. Morton, age 68, a resident of Nathan Drive in Bennington died on Sunday, May 8, 2011 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington. He was born in Brandon on January 15, 1943, and was the son of the late John W. and Harriett (Westin) Morton. He received his education in Springfield, Vt. and is a graduate of Springfield High School in the class of 1961. Robert was a truck driver for several companies including: Goddard Trucking, Rouse's Transportation, Sandri Sunoco in Springfield, and after moving to Bennington he drove for Albany Transportation, Berkshire Bulk and United Magill. He has also driven for Jerome Construction, and as a transporter for area auto dealers. He was currently driving f or Bennington Taxi. In early years while still in Springfield, he worked for S.R Young, Bryant Machine and Fellow Gear Shaper, and had done painting for Jack Robinson. Robert was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Bennington, and a former member of the VFW, Moose and Elks. He loved spending time with family and gatherings with friends. He was an avid hunter, and he loved to drive. Robert is survived by two sons and their wives: John and Shannon Morton of Bennington and Kenneth and Cynthia Morton of Ooltewah, TN. He has four grandchildren: Shawn and Owen Morton of Bennington and Connor and Elizabeth of Ooltewah, TN. He leaves his sister and brother-in-law, Stasia, and Bernard Carey of Springfield, his brother and sister-in-law, Seeley and Linda Morton of Chester. His two ex-wives survive; Linda McCauley Morton of Chattanooga, TN, and Rhoda Welch Morton of Bennington. He has nieces, nephews and cousins. Robert was predeceased by one brother, Wilbur Quimby. FUNERAL NOTICE: Graveside services will be held on Friday, May 13, at the Oakland Cemetery in Springfield at 11:00 AM, with the Rev. Thomas Charlton, officiating. Friends may call at the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME, 628 Main St, Bennington on Thursday afternoon May 12, from 4-7PM.
