BENNINGTON -- Robert M. Olin, 76, a resident of the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington, died on Saturday evening, Nov. 27, 2004, following a brief illness.

He was born in Bennington on March 5, 1928, and was the son of Noel and Anna (Turner) Olin. He received his education in local schools. Mr. Olin served in the Air Force from 1946 until 1949, and was discharged with the rank of Sergeant. Following his military service, he moved to Denver, Colo., where he continued refrigeration schooling. Mr. Olin worked in refrigeration for many years and had been self-employed, operating Bob’s Refrigeration Company in Bennington. At the time he took his retirement, he was employed at G.S. Precision in Wilmington. Mr. Olin was a former member of the Moose Lodge in Bennington and the VFW Post No. 1332 of Bennington. He was still a member of the Eagles Lodge and the American Legion Post No. 13 in Bennington.

Mr. Olin is survived by his mother, Mrs. Anna Barton of North Bennington; and his two sons and daughters-in-law, Noel and Lesley Olin of Newport and Rick and Darcy Olin of North Bennington; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Donna and Thomas Browe of Shaftsbury, Darlene Jaenecke of Shaftsbury and Denise Olin-Hrbek and Jeremy Hrbek of Evanston, Wyo; a stepson, Stuart Thompson of East Arlington; and an aunt and uncle, Bea and Adam Straub of Cambridge, N.Y. Mr. Olin also leaves eight grandchildren, Lisa, Peter, Courtney, Erin, Jocelyn, Adam, Whitney and Ethan; two stepgrandsons, Duane and Elijah; five great grandchildren; his former wife, Beatrice Olin and several cousins. He is predeceased by his wife, Maxine.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, in Bennington, with the Rev. John C. Foster officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in Center Shaftsbury Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.
