Obituary Condolences

CAMBRIDGE, N.Y. -- Robert Peabody, 78, died Monday, July 16, 2007, at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington. He was the husband of Carolyn Woodard Peabody.

Born in the town of Jackson on May 23, 1929, he was the son of the late George and Addie Mae Sherman Peabody. His mother died when he was only 15 months old and he was raised by his step-mother, the late Belle Cox Peabody.

He attended school in Cambridge but was needed on the family farm so he had to quit before graduating.

Robert and Carolyn were married on Aug. 9, 1952.

Most of Robert’s life was spent as a self-employed farmer. He enjoyed raising beef cows. He liked to go to the auctions and buy the scrawniest cows and fatten them up. He also worked for Cambridge Agway as a feed deliveryman.

A brother, George Peabody, died before him.

Besides his wife of nearly 55 years, he is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Amy and Dean Emerson of Newfane, Vt., and Tina and David Brownell of Putney, Vt.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Hatch of Bennington, two brothers, Charles Peabody and Henry Peabody; and a sister-in-law, Edith Peabody.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Friday, July 20, at 7 p.m. at Ackley & Ross Funeral Home, 73 West Main Street, Cambridge. This will be an opportunity for sharing memories and celebrating Robert’s life.

Robert’s ashes will be buried at Rosewood Cemetery in White Creek at a later time.
