Robert Rahe Obituary
Robert "Jim" Rahe

1926-2016 Robert A. (Jim) Rahe, a resident of Brookdale at Fillmore in Bennington, died on May 20, 2016 at the age of 90. Jim was born on February 23, 1926 in Cleveland, Ohio. He attended local schools and was a graduate of the Men's College of Western Reserve University in 1948. His college career was interrupted by World War II. From 1944 to 1946 he served as an Electrician's Mate in the Navy in the Pacific Theater. He served on the USS Regulus (AK-14) and was involved in the liberation of the Philippines and the invasion of Okinawa. While attending college, Jim met Joan (Josie) Allison. They were married in 1950 in Akron, Ohio. The following year they moved to Pownal, when Jim accepted a position in the newly formed Warren Wire Company. He was transferred to the West Coast in 1959, serving as General Manager of Warren Wire's Goleta, California plant. When General Cable purchased the Warren Wire Company, he was moved to the GCC New York headquarters where he served as a divisional marketing manager. While Jim was working in New York, they purchased land in Shaftsbury and built a house on Timbertrails Road in 1971. They returned as permanent residents in 1973 and Jim joined the Flomatic Corporation in North Hoosick, NY where he served as Sales Manager and Vice President for Marketing. He left Flomatic in 1980, when he and Josie started a group of gifts shops at Candlemill Village in East Arlington. They sold these businesses in 1988 and Jim became a Zoning Administrator, first for Shaftsbury and then for Manchester Village, where he served for thirteen years. After moving from Shaftsbury to Bennington in 1998 he served as Zoning Administrator for the Village of Old Bennington for a number of years. Jim was active in the community, serving on the Boards of Bennington Home Health and the Regional Affordable Housing Corporation, among others. He was vestry member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church. He is survived by two daughters, Molly Baum-gardner (Hugh) of Arlington, Virginia and Alyson Flint (Paul) of Barre and three grandchildren Paul and Natasha Flint and Mark Baumgardner. He had one sister, Lois Gerda, who died in 2008. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Shaftsbury, Vermont.
