Robert S. Hurley Sr. 1942 - 2009 POWNAL, VT Mr. Robert S. Hurley Sr., 67, a resident of Bussy Lane in Hoosick Falls, N.Y., died Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a long illness He was born in Pownal, Vt., Jan. 29, 1942, son of the late Everett E. Hurley and Gertrude J. Green Hurley. He received his education in Pownal. In earlier years Bob was employed at the Pownal Race Track, the Pownal Tannery and also worked as a logger. He was a former member of the Bennington Moose Lodge. An avid outdoorsman Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking and in earlier years horse back riding. When Bob became paralyzed in 2002 he enjoyed gardening and bird watching. He leaves two daughters, Karen Farron of Pownal, Vt., and Robin Nelson of New Hampshire, his step-children, Michael Barcum of Bennington, Jean Elliott of Bennington and John Elliott of Comstock, N.Y., nine grandchildren, Christine Nelson, Brenda Nelson and Meghan Nelson, Melissa Hurley, Summer Sweet, Michael Sweet, Christian Barkum, Joshua Fowler and Shanna, two sisters, Gladys Harris of North Pownal, and Loretta St. Hilaire of Pownal, many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his former wife Diane Hinkley Hurley who died in 1989, a step daughter Rachael Wilkins, a son Robert S. Hurley Jr., four brothers Everett Hurley Jr., Kenneth Hurley, Gerald Hurley and Joseph Hurley and three sisters Edna Weaver, Mary Dean and Mildred Burdick. FUNERAL NOTICE: At the request of Mr. Hurley there will be no calling hours or funeral services. The burial will take place in the family lot in Oak Hill Cemetery in Pownal at the convenience of the family.
