Robert Harry "Bob" Shattuck

1928-2012 BONDVILLE Robert Harry "Bob" Shattuck, 83, a resident of Route 30 in Bondville, passed away Tuesday October 16, 2012 at Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Bob was born in Winhall, Vt., on November 2, 1928 the son of Harry and Ruth (Ross) Shattuck and attended local schools. He was a United States Army Veteran, serving his country during World War II. Bob worked for the Vermont Department of Transportation for over thirty years and Stratton Mountain Golf Course for twenty years and worked at the Bondville Fair for many years at the horse pulls. Bob enjoyed fishing, deer hunting occasionally, and loved sugaring so much that he built a sugar house across the street from where he lived. He enjoyed listening to older country music, tinkering around his home and spending time with his family. Bob was also a member of the Volunteer Fire Department for a short time.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, the former Lena Corey whom he married in Peru, Vt., on August 14, 1955, his children Jerry Shattuck of Manchester, Roberta Sargood and her husband David of Shushan, N.Y., and Barbara Valenkas and her husband Michael of Salem, N.H., his brother Henry Shattuck of Bennington, his sisters, Lilla Hall of Jamaica, Vt., and Eunice Squires of Castleton, Vt., his grandchildren Samantha, Christina, Heather, Justin, Michael and Stacy, five great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his son Edgar Shattuck who passed away December 21, 2004, his brothers Almon, William, Eugene and Harold Shattuck and his sisters Margaret Rockwell and Frances Crandall.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A celebration of the life of Robert Harry "Bob" Shattuck will be held Saturday October 21, 2012 at Noon at Brewster Funeral Service 34 Park Place Manchester Center, Vt. Interment will be private. There are no visiting hours. If friends desire, memorial gifts in Bob's memory may be made to the Winhall Police and Fire Department, the Londonderry Rescue Squad, the Stratton Mountain Rescue Squad, and the Neighborhood Connection.
