Robert Joseph Strain

1977 - 2013 BRATTLEBORO Robert Joseph Strain, 36, a resident of South St., died unexpectedly on Sunday, June 16, 2013, at the McKinney Medical Center in Texas.

He was born in Las Vegas, Nev., on March 13, 1977. He was the son of Barbara Radcliffe and Robert Strain. He received his education in Lowell, Mass.

He most recently was employed as an instructor with the McKinney High School Color Guard as a choreographer. Prior to moving to Texas, Rob was employed as a Pilate's Instructor at Robert Joseph Pilates in Brattleboro. He also worked as a DJ at WVEW in Brattleboro.

Robert Strain has been involved in the marching arts for 20 years, performing with the Pride of Cincinnati (OH) and Emerald Marquis (MA) Winterguards and the Blue Devils (CA) Drum and Bugle Corps. Most recently, Robert has worked with a number of high school marching bands and color guards throughout Boston, New York and Texas regions as drill writer, visual caption head, program designer and consultant, as well as color guard instructor and designer.

Robert had amassed experience in all aspects of the marching arts activity while working with Spirit of Atlanta Drum Corps, Santa Clara Vanguard, Cinco Ranch High School, TGCG SO Silver Medalists 2006, TCGC SO Bronze Medalists 2007, 2008, Greater Johnstown High School Winterguards, WGI Scholastic A Finalists 2013, Westfield High School, BOA Champions 2003, St. John's of Cambridge, WGI IA Champions 1997, Miamisburg High School, WGI SW Bronze Medalists 2000. Robert also taught at Fred J. Miller summer camps in 1997 and 1999.

Survivors include his mother, Barbara Radcliffe of Brattleboro; his sisters, Cheri Strain and Cynthia Radcliffe; a nephew, Lucas Strain; hs father, Robert Strain; and his half-sisters, Jessica Strain, Crystal Strain and Heather Dowell; his grandmother, Anna Arringdale; his mentor and father Shawn Edwards, and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Friends may call at the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME on Sunday, June 23, 2013, from 5 to 7 p.m.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Robert will take place on Sunday at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Robin Greene officiating. Burial will take place in the family lot in White Chapel Cemetery, on Monday, June 24, at 1 p.m.
