Robert L. Tobin 1921-2012 BENNINGTON Robert L. Tobin, 91 formerly of Bennington, and more recently of North Bennington died peacefully Tuesday morning July 17, 2012 following a brief illness at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Tobin was born in Dorset on June 7, 1921, he was the son of Robert C. and Elizabeth (McWayne) Tobin. He was a US Army Air Force Veteran serving in World War II, where he was an airplane mechanic. In earlier years, he had worked at the Pownal Tannery, Fred Welling Coal and Grain and for 22 years he and his wife, Zane owned and operated Bob and Zane's Mobil, they retired in 1992. Following his retirement, he enjoyed walking every day, caring for his grandchildren and camping with his wife. Following the loss of Zane on September 15, 2001, he enjoyed the company of his faithful feline companion- Cali, he also liked going for car rides, as well as walking, He will be remembered as a devoted and loving father and grandfather. He leaves his sons Rodney and Linda Tobin of Bennington, Louis and Tiffany Tobin of Woodford, daughters Gloria and Ed Myers of North Bennington, Roberta Tobin and Jeff Landrum of Connecticut, Pamela and Scott Rose of Pownal, sister Charlotte Parks of Dorset, son in law Earl Gerity of Bennington, 17 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a daughter Debra Gerity on May 25, 2001, brothers William, Henry, Donald, Floyd, Frederick and Ivan and sister Shelia Hall. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be held on Friday July 20 at 11 a.m. at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home with Reverend Kathleen Clark officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Park Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. when the family will be present.
